I see that Trump's now claiming the US won both World Wars, and the victory belonged to us, not others.
For the record, France won WW1, though with a lot (mostly British) of help. It's not an accident that a French officer (Foch) led the negotiations with the Germans in that rail car. There were Brits present, but they deferred to him. There were no Americans present; as far as Wilson was concerned, it was entirely up to Foch. Foch signed. A British Admiral also signed, but he was Foch's subordinate (all Allied officers were), and only signed because Foch did.
The peace negotiators. No American’s present. Foch is the guy with the cane, front.
Did the US win WW2? The war against Japan, absolutely. As for Germany, that victory must be shared with the USSR, which suffered radically more casualties and also inflicted radically more casualties. It really is hard to imagine D-Day succeeding if it were not for the Soviets. I think the Soviets might have won without our help; I'm not convinced we could have won without the Soviets. Well, maybe once we got nukes...
V-J day was America’s. V-E and 11 November? Not so much.
Well stated as usual. Towards the final year of the WW2 the
on Eastern Front Russia fielded almost 400 divisions.
They produced 80,000 T34 tanks. More and better artillery.
Meanwhile the German army was demotorizing for lack of fuel and a lack of production of trucks.
